Support your local wildlife with Woofingtons

We stock a comprehensive range of products, from seed and suet to specialist feeders for different bird species. Plus, we also have other wild animal food, such as for one of Britain's most beloved and vulnerable garden mammals, the hedgehog.

  • Wild bird food & feeders: Different birds need different food, and matching the two makes a real difference to which species visit your garden. A general wild bird seed mix suits a broad sweep of garden regulars and is a great starting point for any feeding station. For attracting finches, particularly goldfinches, greenfinches and siskins, nyjer seed is a great choice. Peanuts draw species like blue tits, great tits, woodpeckers and nuthatches, while dried mealworms are especially popular with robins and a brilliant high-protein option during breeding season. Suet blocks, fat balls and half coconut suet feeders are cold-weather staples that attract a variety of garden birds
  • Nesting boxes: Providing a nesting box is an excellent thing to do for your local bird population. They can provide a great alternative to natural nesting sites as a result of urbanisation damaging and removing trees.
  • Hedgehog food: Hedgehogs are now classed as vulnerable to extinction in Great Britain due to their declining numbers. Providing them with the right food over the autumn and winter can make a big difference to their survival. A well-fed hedgehog will also help control slugs, snails and other garden pests naturally. Our hedgehog food is a nutritious, purpose-formulated feed that supports them through the seasons, from the hungry weeks that follow the end of hibernation, to the important autumn period where they need to build up fat reserves before going back again.

Wild bird and animal FAQs

What wild bird food should I start with?

A good general seed mix is the easiest way to begin. From there, you can add extras as and when you please to attract different species and find the right feeding range that suits you and your garden.

How often should I clean my bird feeders?

At least once a week with a mild disinfectant solution. Every time you refill, clear any old or damp food out of the feeder first, then begin to clean. This helps prevent the build-up of bacteria and mould.
